SUBJECT MATTER: All work must be original and be created outdoors—in the natural elements of the approved boundaries during the PAWR event. Subjects may include landscapes, wildlife, streetscapes, architecture, or people in any outdoor setting within or viewable from the borough of West Reading. Artists may not work primarily from printed or digital images. PAWR organizers reserve the right to not display work that is not produced within these guidelines or that is otherwise deemed inappropriate.
SUBMISSIONS: Each registered artist may hang up to two pieces. Maximum size is 30”, including frame, on the longest side.
Artists are responsible for printing their own labels, which should be taped, on one end, to the back of frame so it can be unfolded as shown:
Title of Artwork
Recommended Font: 14 pt. Arial, centered
FRAMING AND HANGING: All work must be wired for hanging in the exhibition. Framing is advisable but not mandatory.
TIPS FOR FRAMING WET ART
Here are two options that painters use to frame wet work without sacrificing the edge:
a) Attach temporary buffers in the rabbet of your frame. Place a small vinyl “dot” in each corner; for larger pieces, maybe add them at mid-points as well. These self-adhesive bumpers will keep the wet surface off the frame, with little or no touch-up required later.
b) Use a floating frame: Before the event, mount your blank canvas and attach your wire. Then remove your canvas for the competition. The pre-drilled holes in the stretchers will make it easier to mount your finished piece when you hand it in.
In either case, attach an additional sign: WET PAINT! DO NOT TOUCH
DISCLAIMER: Reasonable caution and care will be taken with all submissions, but PAWR is not responsible for loss or damage to any submitted works. PAWR reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to the rules and guidelines of the contest, or that is deemed objectionable. All decisions of PAWR are considered final.
CONDITIONS AND LICENSING: Artists agree to make available to Plein Air West Reading (PAWR) high-resolution digital images of entries, if requested, solely for the purpose of promoting the event. These uses many include, but are not limited to, publication in advertisements, rack cards, posters, magazines, newspapers, and other promotional applications for PAWR.
The exhibition is tentatively limited to the first 30 artists to register. The event administrators reserve the right to allow additional entries if deemed manageable by the event staff and within the space limitations of the display venue.
Artists may submit the $10 registration fee by check, credit card or PayPal. You’ll find details in your Cart.
By submitting payment you are acknowledging that you have read, understand and agree to follow the PAWR Rules & Regulations.
Paying by Check: A check for $10 may be made out to WRCRF. A signed and dated copy of the Rules and Regulations form must accompany the check.
